Table! – Canberra’s newest restaurant, beats the COVID blues!
Spread the love

How many special birthday and anniversary celebration dinners have you missed since we started the COVID lockdown in March? Too many to count! But now as Canberrans start dining out again, brand new ‘Table’ is offering something rather special to make the belated celebrations worth waiting for.

On Friday, well-known top Canberra chef Thomas Heinrich, launched his own exclusive restaurant that brings diners right into his world of passion and creativity. Just 8 diners each night are given a window into what makes Thomas’ food so impressive. It’s all Thomas. Thomas cooks for you, serves you, guides you through the menu and shares his love of creating fine food.

You wait in anticipation as you see Thomas creating your next course in front of you. Each mouthful is a burst of joy! As the six courses, interspersed with more surprise delights in between, arrive at your table, your senses come alive to the small details and perfection of look, taste and feel, that Thomas is committed to sharing with you. Thomas’ life time of experience cooking in US and Canadian restaurants and most recently as head chef at Canberra’s Sage Dining Rooms, all comes together at Table!

So let’s take a journey through the current menu. The night starts with Hervey Bay scallop butter with Oestra Caviar and crumpets.

Next comes a Truffle Expresso….

Hiramasa Kingfish with tamarin dressing, green onion and puffed rice. I loved this dish especially.

Nori crisp with oyster aioli

Kangaroo tartar with pickled beetroot, buttermilk and green pistachio

Pietee waffle with duck liver and sherry gel

Chicken barbecue (Inihaw na manok – a Philippine street food and favourite of Thomas’ wife Larah – a world class chef herself)

18 hour braised beef cheeks with truffle parsnip, pickled quandongs and jus (also a huge standout for me – and happily soon to be available in the Canberra Gourmet fridge at Table, to take home and just heat yourself!)

Apple with apple cream, vanilla and lemon

Chocolate with hazelnut and goat milk (oh my – this was soooo good!)

And every mouthful was perfect! Foods that focuses on what’s most important!

Good to know facts are:

You book and pay on-line.

You don’t need to fill a table, you can just book 2 tickets and join other diners.

Parking is at the door and free. Tucked away at 2/65 Sternberg Crescent Wanniassa, just follow the lights.

Check out the Canberra Gourmet offerings while you’re there.

Table also offers BYO without the hefty corkage of fine-dining restaurants. However, soon wine pairing will also be an option for an extra $50 each per person.

For those counting the costs at the moment, know that the price (factoring in the benefits of BYO), is similar to what you pay for other fine dining fixed course restaurants. But the experience is unique, something new and refreshing! No-one else shares themselves and their kitchen like Thomas! It really makes a special occasion something special, unique and memorable.

Thomas and Larah can be rightfully proud of this new venture! And Canberra can be rightfully grateful for this fresh, new dining experience.

Disclaimer: Food and Travel Secrets was a guest of Table, but all my opinions are my own.

I hope this new venture is a great success for Thomas – a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
