A Murrumbateman Moving Feast 2018

A Murrumbateman Moving Feast 2018
Spread the love

A Wonderful Canberra Day Out for the Murrumbateman Moving Feast

It’s a Murrumbateman tradition to celebrate the October Long Weekend with their Moving Feast. It’s a great day out for wine and food lovers, when local boutique winemakers pair their wines with delicious dishes. Mains with a glass of matched wine are $25 and dessert with wine $20. And you also get to keep your lovely Riedel glass. There’s so many wonderful choices that it’s very hard to decide. Suggestions in our car ranged from let’s just do desserts to let’s start and end with dessert, but we landed on heading to McKellar Ridge Wines for their famous Beef Bourguignon Pie and splitting two different desserts.

However, the highlight of the day was not in fact the great food and wine, but rather meeting the faces and families who create the produce and welcome you into their world.

McKellar Ridge Wines

Last year I dropped in on Marina and John for their first Moving Feast since becoming the passionate and proud owners of the McKellar Ridge Wines brand.

One year on and they are as generous and gracious with their hospitality are ever and now have their own award winning wines and a new label to show off.

The Beef Bourguignon Pie was an excellent choice for main course! It was wonderfully matched with the new release 2017 Shiraz Viogner!

Dessert was a Pear and almond tart, baked pears, almond frangipane, delicate almond pastry or Sacher torte, chocolate and hazelnut
cake with single origin Venezuelan milk chocolate ganache and apricot compote, both matched with their new release 2018 “Cherie d’Amour” sauvignon blanc.

Barton Estate

At Barton Estate Bob and Julie were serving Aromatic moroccan lamb and lentil stew-  slow cooked and served on couscous, garnished
with coriander and toasted pistachios and served with crusty bread. They were also offering a vegetarian option that was a  roasted cauliflower and mushroom casserole. These were matched with a choice of their petit verdot or Bordeaux style cabernet blend. Their dessert was a lovely warm lemon buttermilk cake, served with riesling syrup and double cream matched with their “Elva” late picked riesling. Their children Riley and Georgia had grown since I met them last year and they were still enthusiastic team member, serving guests and giving out Moving Feast passports.

Kerralee Wines

It was a delight to meet the Staples family at Kerralee Wines and hear their story, learning that Kerralee is a name that reflects Ron and Elaine’s pride in their three daughters. The Staples were not only busy with the Moving Feast, but they were also hosting a wedding. It’s a perfect location for a function, gorgeous in every way!

Helm Wines

Our first dessert stop was Helm Wines for their excellent Honeyed ricotta and pear cheesecake with salted caramel and crushed pistachios and fresh strawberries in butterscotch
schnapps syrup with crème Chantilly, matched with their half dry riesling.

They were also serving Barbecued bratwurst from Griffith Butchery, sauerkraut, mustard and
relish matched with a glass of cabernet sauvignon or riesling.

Granitevale Estate

Granitevale Estate had the most fabulous Banoffee Pavlova. So good! This went well with their 2016 PinkIce sangiovese sauvignon blanc. They were also serving Bourbon glazed beef ribs slow cooked in a bourbon based sauce served with a crunchy side salad and matched with their 2015 shiraz

A look around the other wineries…

Here are some snapshots of some of the meals we missed.

All served with 2 chocolates of choice and a hot drink.

Gallagher Wines

Lemongrass chicken skewers, served over aromatic greens with a sweet and zesty dipping sauce matched with their 2018 riesling. Dark chocolate cream filled snowball doughnuts, served with a shiraz and berry coulis matched with their 2016 sparkling shiraz.
