Staying on one of the many farms in Punjab is popular, particularly for those who usually live in cities. Bollywood movies are full of backgrounds of yellow mustard fields. People talk about how good it is to unwind and relax, get back to basics and a simpler life. While it might sound a little kitsch, it is actually surprisingly true. It really is a lovely experience and Punjabiyat Farm is one of the best, just 1&1/2 hours drive from Amritsar. Book directly and pay in advance to get the best rate. The 8500INR or $170 AUD includes all meals, which I recommend as there are no other options for meals close by and the food is excellent at Punjabiyat.
Punjabiyat Farm is just four separate villas (cottages) each created in a rural style with lovely décor and comfort. You can enjoy the rice paddy views from your verandah or rooftop.
But perhaps the greatest feature that sets Punjabiyat Farm apart is the tube well or plunge pool that gets filled freshly with fresh irrigation water for a dip and then recycled onto the fields. Perfect after a walk.
And there are plenty of easy, quiet walks around the farm and neighbourhood where you’re likely to meet kind and friendly people working on the fields.
A walk into the village is also pleasant and easy in good weather and a great way to keep active.
Which is good because the food at Punjabiyat Farm is has all the deliciousness of home cooked Punjabi food. Ask to see the cooking and you can take home the recipes to recreate in your own kitchen. And do try to enjoy breakfast on the roof of the library and lunch too if weather permits. Dinner is best enjoyed in the lounge as mosquitos are out in the evening (do bring your insect repellent).
The team at Punjabiyat Farm are lovely and do everything to make your stay as wonderful as possible. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Even wifi is now possible if you would like to have it. There is no room fridge or tea making facilities but it is possible to bring your own beer or wine and keep some in the main fridge and to ask for tea or coffee when you would like some.
Do check out the library early because there are some real gems in there. It would be so easy to stay at Punjabiyat Farm for weeks, living the simple life, enjoying great food, reading, walking and meeting a warm and friendly community.

Another very good farm stay in Punjab, near Chandigarh is Hansali Organic Farm & Farm Stay. This property is in the midst of lush green fields & located on a well maintained road in Fatehgarh Sahib. They have 4 very comfortable double rooms with in-house fresh meals which are organic & quite sumptous too. The property also has other farm activities like bicycling, a farm tour including interaction with farm animals like goats, cows, chickens etc. They are pet friendly too. There is a splash pool & a fireplace as well & nice garden to sit & relax. The hosts are warm & friendly and take care of all the needs of their guests personally. Overall a great punjabi farm experience with punjabi hospitality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRoIO-NpZJI
